Monty’s, Castle Road, opened its doors at the start of February and I was lucky enough to be invited to one of the opening evenings.
Up until the refurbishment, Monty’s was Angry Alys, a restaurant that had been highly recommended to me. But unfortunately I didn’t get to go. So as soon as I had the invitation to the opening of Monty’s I jumped at the chance.
When arriving to the restaurant and wine bar, I was in awe of the stunning interior. The wine bar has this real city chic vibe and the restaurant emulates a fine city eatery.
After a couple of glasses of prosecco and the best porn star martini I have ever had, we had a little taste of the menu and my goodness it was divine. Between two of us we shared the smoked ham hock terrine with a crispy quail egg, truffle potato chips and a homemade BBQ sauce and the slow braised pork belly slice with sweet corn and chilli salsa, pancetta and perky chilli jam. Perfection.
The menu selection is superb. The quality of the food shines through on the menu and is even better when you eat it. What is great about the choice of menus is that there are options to suit most occasions. There is the regular menu, tasting menu, lunch menu, a bar menu for something lighter and seasonal menus (currently Mother’s Day). Another thing I really loved about Monty’s is that you don’t have to go just for wonderful food, the wine bar is a winner in it’s own right. There are plenty of seats within the bar, music, a great atmosphere and a quality cocktail list. So if you don’t fancy dinner, it’s the perfect place for a few drinks.
Monty’s has been lovingly designed and is clearly a dream come true for the owners, Darren and Jonathan. You can see how much work and love has been put in the restaurant and wine bar and they have something amazing that I can’t wait to go back to.
